Patrick Kurtz is a private investigator, criminalist, author, editor, and researcher. He lives with his wife Maya Grünschloß, PhD and their two children, Ian and Enlil, alternating between Germany, Barcelona (Spain), and the Isle of Skye (Scotland).
Born in “Römer” and the grandson of the central German local historian Hilmar Römer, Patrick Kurtz studied Provincial Roman Archaeology, Psychology, Comparative Literature, and German Studies at the Universities of Oxford, Leipzig, Marburg, and Hagen. In addition to publishing Aidan Johnstone’s memoirs under the title Livingstones Mahnung, he released the academic volume Von Ovid, Grass und Tintagel Castle – Wissenschaftliche und Essayistische Ausflüge in die Europäische Literatur in 2012.
Patrick Kurtz has also conducted studies of varying intensity on topics such as prehistory; religion and mythology; the origin, development, and nature of the universe, life (with a focus on biochemistry, specifically the DNA molecule) and consciousness; philosophy; police violence; climate change; and democracy, demagoguery, and disinformation in the 21st century. His interests embrace both formal scientific approaches and alternative perspectives, with a view beyond the Western horizon. Other passions include music (he is a multi-instrumentalist), Rishi Yoga, scuba diving (PADI-certified), and various forms of athletic activity.
Out of interest and natural aptitude for combination, deduction, and analysis, Patrick Kurtz completed private detective training in 2012/13 and has been working professionally as an IHK-certified specialist detective since. His investigative focus lies in criminalistics using insights from human ethology.
Additional qualifications in investigation and security include the IHK expertise examination under § 34a GewO, commercial firearms certification under § 7 WaffG, certification in life-saving first aid and defibrillator use, VDS intervention qualification, and even elevator operator training in accordance with TRBS 3121.
Languages: German, English, and Spanish (fluent); Italian, French, Catalan, and Greek (basic conversational); he also holds a Latin certificate (Latinum) and is familiar with the Hebrew alphabet.
